In late 2006, local church leadership approved an organization called Salt and Light, based on Matthew 5:13-14. The purpose of this organization is twofold. First, Salt and Light is a clearinghouse for ministry ideas. For example, a brother may notice that during the summer, there are many children in Bluffton who lack structured activities and supervision. Perhaps the Spirit prompts the brother to find ways to intervene. Maybe a sister has the idea to use converts to provide childcare for young families during testimonies, but she just isn't sure how to organize it. S&L welcomes these ideas for outreach and service and will work with brethren to make them reality. Your ideas matter. Secondly, S&L helps brethren to discover how God has uniquely gifted them and then provides opportunities to use these gifts. If for example, S&L knows that God has given a young brother a heart for working with youth, we would match him up with the brother (mentioned earlier) who noticed Bluffton's youth. Or if S&L knows of a convert that enjoys providing childcare, we would put that convert in contact with the sister who had the "childcare during testimonies" idea. In summary, S&L is an organization designed to match needs with those equipped to meet those needs. Communication is key. Your willingness to communicate what you enjoy doing and/or ideas you have for outreach is very important to the success of S&L. This monthly newsletter will keep you informed of how God is working through S&L, how you can become involved, and of course, how you can specifically pray for projects being done, all to God's glory.

quote: "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink...but you can put salt in his oats." As Christians, we can't force a person to believe. But by being the joyful salt of the earth, we can make unbelievers thirsty for the Living Water, Jesus Christ.
